I post on Instagram every day. I regularly create videos for my Instagram stories. I ‘go live’ on my Facebook page. I do masterclasses for other people’s memberships. I speak at events. I get interviewed on podcasts.

But I didn’t ‘wake up’ like this.

It isn’t ‘easy’ for me to be visible. It isn’t different for me. And at first, it certainly didn’t come naturally.

I have a lot of insecurities and issues about how I look (I’m working on them, though, and funnily enough, getting visible has massively helped me with this).

In the first three years of my business, the only photo of me I used (and it was my profile pic) was a very close-up black and white selfie. Not exactly professional or likely to grab the attention of hundreds of followers!

I was hiding – and I was frustrated. Frustrated with the slow growth of my business, and frustrated with myself, because I knew that I was holding myself back. I was fed up of watching everyone else doing the things I wanted to be doing.

So, in one frustration-filled moment, I decided that my only option was to go for it. To get over myself. To just do the damn thing, already. I announced I was going to do it (accountability os a great motivator), and on 5th October 2018, I did my first ever Facebook live.

I haven’t looked back since.

Now, after nearly 18 months of being visible in my business (and having to FORCE myself to be visible in the beginning), I know how important it is, because I’ve seen the difference it makes. These days, I do it because I know I HAVE to (and actually, I rather enjoy it!)

Being visible has led me to the fantastic opportunities of creating masterclasses for those memberships and being asked to speak at those events (every opportunity has come to me – I’ve not had to chase).

It’s time for you to get visible

If you have ‘becoming visible in your business’ on your list of 2020 goals, then that’s amazing – you’ve taken a massive step to growing your business.

I’ve been where you are right now. I know how scary it is. I understand all the things that are running through your mind. But I want to tell you that it’s okay.

That what’s scarier than getting visible is the possibility of not reaching your full potential. The possibility of your business never taking off. Of regretting what you didn’t do, just because you were worried about looking a bit silly.

I know you’ve got to do this in your own time, but I’d like to try to make it a bit easier for you.

Here’s my advice…

– Don’t overthink things. Record that Instagram-story video and post it – don’t keep re-recording it to ‘make it perfect’. Write a caption from your heart, check for typos and post it. Take a selfie, slap a filter on it and post it. The only person noticing your wrinkles/roots/wonky teeth is you.

– Which leads me nicely on to… no one is judging you anywhere near as much as you think they are (if at all). And even if they are – so what? Really, so what? What some random person I don’t know thinks about me is none of my business – and I’m certainly not going to let them stop me go after my dreams.

– Remember that if you want to grow your business online, visibility is a non-negotiable. You are holding yourself back from something you want. Literally, your only obstacle is you. Rip off that band-aid. Show the world how amazing you are. Because you are – and you have sooo much to offer.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ready? Ready.
